Luke Abbott, Jo Addison, Simon Davenport, Sarah Horton, Carl Rowe, Robin Tarbet. Salivate is a triple screen projection in a vacant commercial unit in the Anglia Square shopping complex, Norwich. The three projections are aligned next to each other along the length of a large series of windows. The central screen runs a series of short videos depicting beguiling, sensuous, aesthetic, intriguing, amusing and mesmerising subjects. The screens that flank the central screen project a series of still images, which are disparate and erratic, resulting in a fast edit of captivating glimpses. The event transforms a redundant public space into a free to view spectacle. The title ‘Salivate’ is derived from Anthony Burgess’s novel ‘A ‘Clockwork Orange’ and his reference to Pavlov’s experiment with dogs. It also references B.F. Skinner’s research into operant conditioning. The spectacle of Salivate then becomes Pavlov’s bell, ringing out amid the concrete walkways and steel shutters of the urban run, selling desires and thoughts rather than mass-produced commodities.
