Here is an introduction into ourselves and our practices….
Isabel Dickinson – I am a Ceramic and Textile artist, working with Earthenware and porcelain. Inspired by organic forms from within the kentish landscape. I produce handbuilt sculptures and thrown work, combined with a mix of bright, colourful and delicate pastel underglazes. Felt, fabrics, beads and embroidery are incorporated into scuptural projects. This year I look to further explore texture, pattern & illustration.
William – Both a Sculptor and Woodturner, the latter being his current focus for this show. Through the use of traditional methods he inlays found materials into wooden vessels. The thoughts behind the process are to demonstrate the aboptive qualities of wood and how it blends into our surrounding domestic enviroments.
Kate Dickinson- Although training as a Fashion and Textiles Teacher, I have always admired traditional crafts. I am influenced by my rural surroundings and have always had a mixed media approach mixing soft textiles with the harder materials. Influenced by our children who have both gone down the creative route, I now find the exciting prospect of having the time to rekindle my creativity with a more experimental approach combining my textile world with metal, wood, ceramics and stone.
Charles Dickinson- My working life has always been to make and repair objects that have a function. After mainly working to commission I now find myself having the opportunity, as an Artist Blacksmith to enjoy the challenge of making objects purely for their aesthetic appearance. Not only using alternative metals, but very much looking forward to experimenting, and presenting a mixed media approach currently incorporating stone.
Joanne Smith (Guest Artist) – I am a pastel painter based in rural Kent , where I live with my family and Golden doodle maddy. My studio is in my home surrounded by the beautiful countryside; from here I have the space and light to create my unqiue life like portraits. I studied graphic design and illustration at the kent Institute of Art and Design, it was during my career in design that I developed my love for pastels in which I now specialise in.
My portraits are highly detailed original portraits of animals and people and I use photographs as reference. High quality Pastelmat paper allows me to build pastel in layers of colour that gives depth and vibrancy, with every commision my aim is to capture the personality of the subject. I have had two pieces shortlisted for the Pastel society Annuel Exhibition and exhibited at the Creek Gallery, Faversham.
