A 2 metre tall steel chair, billion year old rocks, Foxes mint wrappers are all ingredients to sculptures by two Islington artists in Tuffnell Park Road. The Rock Tower (on the site of the erstwhile St Georges Theatre ) with its modernist extension provides an unusual setting for the work of Hinchee Hung and Nigel Goldie, but one that works to good effect. Both artists use discarded objects and materials to explore our relationship with consumerism, the environment and social discord. The art is both deceptively simple – split elm and rock called ‘fissure’ or a ‘walking stick’ made from rose wood complete with thorns -yet highly suggestive of conflict and break up or that of infirmity and the pain of old age
