Amanda’s current exhibition Formation Level is on show until 24 March 2019. The former civil engineer, turned artist uses experimental documentary techniques to record the processes and hidden narratives of the labour and materials embedded in our roads, including the manufacture of road sweepers.
The seminar: Paying Close Attention – working in industry, will consider ideas around the exhibition with a contribution by Gareth Bell-Jones, director of Flat Time House, looking at the historical legacy of the Artists Placement Group and the idea of the Incidental Person, a term coined by John Latham. Dr Erika Balsom, will present a development on her paper, Rehabilitating Observation, previously given at the Photographers Gallery, London. Amanda will discuss her experiences of working as an artist with primary industry and manufacturing in relation to the works in the exhibition.
