Curated and Conceived by Anne Colvin. The second in a series of 'conceptual clubs', Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club will form an extension of Langton's show Every Sound You Can Imagine guest curated by Christoph Cox and the collection of Robert Shimshak. Taking the name from The Beatles infamous album, which not only acknowledges Karlheinz Stockhausen as a musical influence but actually includes his portrait on the cover, Sgt. Pepper's… explores the space between performer/non-performer, musician/non-musician and composer/non-composer and the influence of some of the avant-garde masters on subsequent generations. A series of performances, screenings, sound installations and legacy listening sessions from Merce Cunningham and John Cage, Luke Fowler, Fred Frith Ensemble, Michael Nyman and Peter Greenaway, Steve Roden and Loren Chase, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Jennifer Walshe, The Beatles, Bjork, Sonic Youth and more will take place twice a week from February 18th through March 28. A curated sound and video series will also be posted on New Langton Art's blog. As with Colvin's previous installation The Colony Room, New Langton Arts (2008), socializing is encouraged and with that in mind our resident mixologist will be concocting a new cocktail, Tangerine Dream, to add to our specially commisioned list. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club attire is also welcomed! More info: http://www.newlangtonarts.org/view_event.php?category=Gallery&archive=&&eventId=425
