This event is showing Kate Hodges' final MA installation piece about displacement and temporary shelters. Kate was determined to set herself limits of only using materials found on site and constructing the shelter within one week. Having never built anything of this size before or in an outside space this was quite a challenge. The installation is also providing a platform to highlight the lack of studio facilities and closure of artists' studios in Norwich within the next year, therefore displacing local artists. The diversity of creative people in such a small 'cultural city' is massive with visual arts, musicians, performers and street artists and all these groups need space and facilities to experiment and develop their skills. A local radio station will be present and recording conversations inside the shelter about these issues and comments from the local councils and Arts Council have been sought. However the most important people are artists and people working in the creative sectors to come and have their say as well as enjoy a social and networking evening.
