Shifting States
29 November – 11 December 2016
Private View: Thursday 1 December 6-9pm
The condition of liminality is a state of transition, of suspension on the threshold between one place, time or state of mind and another. It involves ambiguity, uncertainty and the dissolution of order: identities and outcomes are thrown into doubt. It speaks of borderlands, faultlines and indeterminate places.
This intriguing concept exerts a strong pull for the artists in this exhibition. Their processes involve entering a state of flux in which the destination is initially unknown. The overt subject might be a time, a place or a psychological state – or all of the above.
The exhibition features painting, print, photography, film, installation and sculpture.
