SPACE//PLACE Residency

Sirin Bahar Demirel & Marsha Franco are a artist duo based in Istanbul, Turkey and Florida, USA. Collaborating from different locations for this project, Demirel and Franco reflect on time, place and inconstancy of these notions. Their works combine a childlike curiosity about other peoples lives whilst experimenting with space.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Three residencies will take place online between May–July, with each selected artist having one month to complete a proposed project along the theme of site-specificity.
During the DAR residency Demirel and Franco will work on “Show me the past – I show you the future”, a web-based photo project aiming to play with the perception of time and space by using simple fragments of daily life. During the residency, the artists will share 2 photos each day with a caption (one from Istanbul, Turkey, one from Florida, USA) at a specific time and due to the 7-hour time difference between Turkey and the USA. The artists, in a sense, will witness each other’s past and future while showing the present.
