A sound walk basically involves walking slowly, not talking, listening with more intent than usual to the sounds around. There are many approaches to a sound walk; mine is to find a route that has interestingly-changing sounds, making each person’s experience a unique, one-time-only sound piece that they and the environment perform in collaboration. The walk will cover about a mile and last about an hour. Kids are welcome (but note the bit about staying quiet!) and the route should be okay for people in wheelchairs. The walk will start at 2pm; if the weather looks iffy on the day, check the website or text 07891 908025 to find out if it’s going ahead. World Listening Day is an initiative of the World Listening Project in Chicago.
