This talk aims to examine some of the practical concerns in research at the interface of fine art and theatre. Lorrice Douglas and Jane Collins will discuss their approaches to staging within site-specific contexts. They will present alternative methods of production and the potential of site specificity on the audience encounter. Lorrice Douglas uses installation, archive and photography to construct spaces which raise questions around ‘staging’ and the site-specific. Her practice engages with artworks that exist between contexts; the historical, the archival and the fictional and the way the ambiguities of these works are experienced by the viewing subject. Jane Collins is Professor of Theatre and Performance at Wimbledon College of Art. She is a writer, director and theatre-maker who works all over the UK and internationally. She co-edited Theatre and Performance Design: a Reader in Scenography, published by Routledge in March 2010. Jane’s research locates theatre and performance within the wider discourse of arts practice.
