In keeping with the current gothic revival, Strange Days is a mix of eccentric characters, mythical beasts and other quasi religious monsters and fairground freaks. Artists Jemima Brown, Max Hymes, Caroline Achaintre, Jason Oliver, James Green, Simon Ward, and Helen Murphy use diverse materials, textures and forms to explore the darker recesses of their quirky imaginations, sending viewers on a dizzying circus ride through the weird and wonderful territory of… life sized wax characters, peculiar John Merrick inspired masks, wicker heads with intricately beaded horns, giant hand tufted abstract figures combining heavy metal imagery with German expressionism, Goya-esque woodcuts, intriguing sculptures formed using Rapid Prototype techniques, and kaleidescopically patterned people wearing their processed diets and materialistic obsessions upon their sleeves. Ultimately the show prompts the question as to what kind of strange beings we have become in these uncertain and apocalyptic times. Enter at your peril.
