SPACE//PLACE Residency

Suzannah Pettigrew’s practice communicates the frisson and friction between reality and fiction. Exploring our autonomous utopias and transgressive exchanges, emulating the experienced eroticism and aspirational validation. Her work simultaneously manipulates our encounters with screens in spaces and the spaces within screens. Imbued with a sense of relentless anticipation that something else will arrive.
The digital residencies provide an online space for artists to develop works, ideas and practices. Digital Artist Residency is an online platform which provides space for digital artists to create and display new artwork. The initiative aims to provide support for artwork created using digital processes, exploring the boundaries of art and technology.
Over a six week residency multidisciplinary artist Suzannah Pettigrew will create a series of works, entitled Terrible View, exploring the semiotic language that is generated through the use of social platforms. The focus of the discussion being summer travel and the digital value system that accompanies it. Communicating the experience of universally repeated compositions, compacting and splicing all visuals until they are barely recognisable versions of their former selves. Exhibiting the works across DAR during the off-season creates a conflicting dialogue between imagery and platform; the information becomes inconsistent with its use therefore disrupting the alleged travel algorithm that has evolved.
