An exhibition is to be held at Durham Botanic Gardens to commemorate George Forrest's achievements and celebrate his life and work through the media of textile and photographic art. Jenny Head, Pauline Coddington and Hilary Clarke work together as Ecojenda and are dedicated to promoting the cause for conservation of our heritage, especially the glorious landscapes and plant life we are fortunate to still enjoy in this country. Their appreciation inspires them to create textile and photographic art that they hope will draw attention to the importance of preserving our inheritance for future generations. Their touring exhibition of original textiles and photography celebrates the discipline, courage and appreciation of beauty of plant hunter George Forrest, who travelled to China between 1904 and 1932 collecting botanical specimens which rapidly established themselves as some of our modern-day favourites. It was George Forrest who brought many varieties of rhododendrons and primula, among others, back to this country, establishing them as firm favourites in British gardens.
