The Festival Gallery, www.thefestivalgallery.com – is a new concept in promoting contemporary art. It includes an online site selling artwork by established and new artists and a touring venue to take art to UK festivals and art fairs. Recent outings include The Manchester Contemporary Art Fair and The Manchester Weekender with a forthcoming exhibition at The Lowry restaurant opening in August.
The exhibition opens, as part of New Mills Festival, with a preview on Thursday 18th September, 6.30 -8.30pm all welcome.
The Festival Gallery is the brainchild of gallery director Aileen McEvoy FRSA who says – “I am delighted to have been invited to curate The Festival Gallery Showcase for the 2014 New Mills Festival. New Mills has a growing reputation for the vitality of the visual arts and nowhere is this better represented than the Studios Gallery. Programmed by artists this space is not afraid to show challenging and unconventional new art…it is a real asset for the town.”
After 30 years of working in the visual arts and a lifetime of meeting artists and of seeing and buying art, Aileen understands how difficult it can be to find out about the wonderful artwork that is being made in this country and internationally and sees it as a challenge to bring a sample of the best of this work to the public. The Festival Gallery presents works by many artists whose names and works are familiar and also introduces exceptional artists whose work has rarely, if ever, been shown in this country.
Many of the works by established artists are in the form of original limited edition prints – these are original works by the artists and not reproductions or copies of other works.
The exhibition at The Studios includes works by Michael Craig-Martin, Suzanne Treister, Willie Doherty, Brian Fell, Ralph McGaul, Elizabeth Stuart Smith, Pip Dickens and James Quin. Although the majority of these artists usually exhibit in art galleries nationally and internationally, the works in the showcase have been specially selected to be displayed at home or in the workplace.
The exhibition continues till Friday 24th October at The Studios, 12 Union Road, New Mills, High Peak, SK22 3ES. Viewing times Thursday 11am – 7pm Friday 11am – 4pm or by appointment tel: 07753842861
