Joy Adamson is perhaps best known for her conservation work with big cats (particularly the lioness ‘Elsa’). The rearing and recording of Elsa’s life brought her fame and fortune with the book Born Free (made into a film in 1966) and its sequels. Less well known is that Joy was a very accomplished artist. Her mercurial temperament led her to study medicine, music, sculpture and photography. Only after she met Swiss botanist Peter Bally did she discover her flare for botanical painting. This exhibition brings together a rarely seen collection of original botanical watercolours. A touring exhibition organised by Nature in Art
