The Poetics of Space: Teresa Braula Reis and Aethan Wills A duo show exploring the human place in space. Private View Friday 27th September 2013 6-8pm. Exhibition continues 28th September to 6th October, Wednesday to Sunday 12-6pm. Teresa Braula Reis and Aethan Wills are united in considerations of how their artworks relate to space. Both visual artists draw on studies into the philosophy of space, including Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space: the namesake of the exhibition. Braula Reis explores built environments with a focus on liminal or forgotten spaces such as doorways and Wills draws inspiration from nature and the ornate architecture of Japan. Their sculptures and constructions are imbued with musings on the human place in space. Intermittent stretches of bamboo in cast iron by Aethan Wills will pierce the space from floor to ceiling and Teresa Braula Reis will stage an architectural intervention in response to her surroundings with a representation of found objects. Together this will form an urban-natural hybrid landscape. Each stage of Braula Reis’ construction will be documented with photographs accompanied by lines of the artist’s poetry. A selection of Wills’ sculpture and wall-based works, including a visual rendition of a haiku, will also be on display providing a dynamic and varied exhibition.
