Titled after a character from the 70‘s comic Mandy, this multi-media group exhibition presents work which responds to contained situations of ambivalence and uncertainty, feeding off the resulting spillage. With work by Penni Pierce, Frances Williams and Tony Foster, it features unexpected sculptural sound pieces, installation portraits of a fictional archivist/curator’s personal breakdown and video work exploring the tensions of relationship ‘events’. As the eponymous Anne helplessly tries to control her hideous laugh by suppressing her real feelings, so the artists’ creations play, suffer and disrupt the Basement’s white space and it’s dissimilar twin subterranean workshop.
