‘The Story of the KniTted’ a piece of site specific artwork by Fiona Hamilton and Jane Lawrence is one of over 20 pieces of work created by artists from around the UK for Stowage (for further details on artists, work and venues please see www.foundspace.co.uk). Contemplating the ancient connections between humanity and wool, Fiona and Jane consider the art of working with wool. Working with the staff and customers of local wool shop, ‘Heavenly Yarns’ over several weeks, a piece of artwork has been developed which celebrates the individual, whilst recognising the collective. Knitting stories and memories have been shared and stowed, the journeys of the ‘KniTted’ documented from inception to object and beyond, recording the everyday and weaving a map of the knitting community that ‘Heavenly Yarns’ is building.
