Initially inspired by the flower paintings of the Golden Age Dutch masters, these 8 large-scale drawings form a series that sees the beauty of the natural world in its transience and fragility, emerging from and dissolving back into a captivating and foreboding black. In this contrast of delicate plant life against the density of the blackened paper, there is a suggestion of that original philosophical question: why is there something rather than nothing? And to this we may now add–– how does that something survive?
