Light Fantastic! Colour, movement and the division of time are explored in this dynamic installation of Timepiece in the RBS Salon Gallery by sculptor Andrew Stonyer. ‘The duration of patterns of real and implied movement that, are subject to the geometry of the circle and the square, are of significance to my sculpture. The scale of this geometry can extend from the human proportion to the cycles of the cosmos, where it involves the sun and its daily and seasonal variations’. Andrew Stonyer ARBS Timepiece consists of twelve, two metre long tubes of neon that are encased in transparent polycarbonate sleeves. This sculpture explores the patterns of time that exist within the hour and significantly how they are revealed through seconds, minutes and the quarterly divisions of the hour. Stonyer is fascinated by the patterns that reside within intervals of time and how they can be translated into aesthetic imagery. His sculptures evolve through drawings, maquettes and working mock-ups through to full scale realisation.
