Trace features the work of a collective of seven women artists whose work explores the theme of ‘trace’ through a variety of media. Painting, printmaking, photography, video and sculpture all feature, particularly in unfamiliar forms. So for example Julie Liebling’s oils capture fleeting memories of the past rather than the more traditional detail we expect in portraiture and Margaret Johnson’s ‘prints’ are sculptural imprints embossed on heavy paper rather than images printed on a flat surface. Themes of memory are recurrent, all the exhibitors drawing on their own experiences in the making of their art. This is a high quality and fascinating exhibition.The full list of exhibitors is Myra Banga, Diana Frasca, Anna Groom, Margaret Johnson, Julie Liebling, Chris Maxwell and Fin Robinson. All the artists are mature students at the University of Hertfordshire studying for a BA in Fine Art.
