An exhibition of artworks inspired by the archives of the Stroudwater Navigation Archive Company. Among the many documents the artists have responded to are hand-written minutes books, letters for and against the canal construction, photographs and maps. Some items date back to the early 1700s and are very fragile.
The artists’ books have been inspired by maps, by the texture and pattern of text, by old, worn paper, book covers and boxes. The makers have considered the meaning of an ‘archive’ and explored the definition a book.
