Gallery visitors are invited to navigate the intimate and ephemeral space between themselves and the artwork. Breathing Apple is a larger than life mechanical sculpture that continuously inflates and shrinks. The reverberation of the apple's breath fills up the gallery and creates a surrealist space, one that directly references Rene Magritte's Listening Room (1952) and alludes to Alice in Wonderland's dreamlike world. For Sungyeon Park, Breathing Apple acts as a postmodern signifier of femininity within patriarchal society. The paintings of Trevor Kiernander focus on rural and urban landscapes. This series additionally explores the conceptual landscape formed between the viewer, the paintings, and the gallery space they both occupy. Kiernander investigates how a painting, is viewed as a painting. PRIVATE VIEW: 6PM – 9PM
