Our occasional Unfinished Business events offer a behind the scenes insight into the development of artists’ work in progress. Philomena Harmsworth will be testing out her new work, Dismantle for Flow: “a visual journey; a pause on my way round understanding the world” which she will present as a performance of poetry, art, video and a book.
Philomena studied art at Camberwell and Wimbledon Colleges of Art and has designed theatre productions for fringe theatre quickly returning to her first love of paint. She painted scenery for West End theatre productions, wide screen cinema, TV and music videos for seven years, as well as teaching art to various groups from young offenders to professionals. She has exhibited at Farley Farm House, Home of the Surrealists and has paintings in public and private collections.
Philomena says, “25 years a painter for film, theatre and myself, I am revelling in the place where art forms cross over: my paintings have left the surface of the canvas and been incorporated into 3D models, my sculptures are 3D paintings, my writing embroiders poetry with spoken visuals. The performance will incorporate and demonstrate all these practices as a piece of artwork in its own right.”
