Vibe³ (Vibe Cube) is a sound installation incorporating collected, donated, and archived sounds expressing“spirit of place”. Residents of Colchester, Harlow & Basildon have been invited to submit both recordings and ideas for recordings reflecting the history, character, and unique feel of their area; from wildlife to nightlife, people working to children playing, historical sounds and contemporary noises; hundreds of sounds that make up the background to life in Essex. Artists Stuart Bowditch and Damien Robinson have collected and redeveloped these into an ever-changing sound mix via the Vibe Cube, showing at locations in the three towns. Essex residents have contributed their own sounds which they feel reflect the history and character of their area. So far included in the project are a recording of the Colchester Choral Society, an Essex Radio test signal, the opening ceremony of Fords in Dunton with Harold Wilson, Easter celebrations at St. Nicholas in Laindon and birds at Lexden Spring. All collected and donated sounds will be donated to Essex Sound Archive in Chelmsford to contribute to the sonic history of the County. The public can continue to contribute sounds until September. Vibe³ is on show in Basildon (May), Harlow (June), Colchester (July) and at Essex Record Office in Chelmsford in August. See http://drop.io/vibecube for venue details and dates
