Waiting for the Washing […] “a non-conventional space” – conventional, yet not quite conventional, art. Scottish Artist Graham Lister will be exhibiting a selection of new, site specific art works with the ARTWASH collective in their laundrette gallery space on Windmill Road. Oxford. The exhibition runs from June 24th until July 21st. Waiting on the Washing is a showcase of new ‘altered portraits’ based on images of people waiting on their washing cycles to end. The colour schemes and aesthetics of each work reflect different laundry loads. The images range from ‘mostly denim colours’ in “The Blues Are Still Blue” to the symbol-based images like “Low-Heat-Iron-Only”. The series of portraits is an extension of Graham’s existing practice. The images are clearly real, but are distorted and exaggerated via photocopying and the use of bold oil colour.
