Four years ago, the world was startled by the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, arguably the most impressive visual spectacle of modern times. But amidst the rockets fired to create the perfect weather, the digitally composited footstep fireworks and that ugly child with the perfect voice being hidden away in a broom cupboard, there emerged an element of deception that only became apparent because of mankind’s fondness for suspicion. On 24 April 1967, Vladimir Komarov became the first human fatality during a space mission in the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz 1. On 24 April 2012, Tethervision will launch Wake. The first programme in the series features a performance of ‘A Struggle Told 5 Ways’ by London-based Dave Charlesworth. With the analogue to digital switchover, we are entering the final stages of the inevitable transition to a new, non physical materialism. Wake will mourn this slow passing of the analogue and look to the coming years with its new, energised replacement. The event at Primary begins at 8pm.
