To inaugurate the Dialogues series, Simon Warner presents a history of landscape art revealed by pictures in the Huddersfield collection that also add up to a history of walking. From 19th century studies of country dwellers to 20th century works that show people and the environment from an increasingly urban perspective, the evolution of modern painting is also a transformation of the status of the figure in the landscape. The selected paintings are interspersed with new video, and one audio work by Simon Warner offering a contemporary interpretation of traditional landscape themes: the Walker, the Labyrinth and the View.
