You are cordially invited to the launch of WALKING PICTURES by VALENTIN MANZ a new limited edition book published by the Society for Certaine Errors // Featuring an exhibition of original paintings and a collection of handmade books by Valentin Manz – poetry from the book read with live music. // The book ‘WALKING PICTURES’ features a series of large-scale paintings by artist Valentin Manz, made in response to working as an art therapist in a locked ward with emotionally disturbed people who have committed crimes. Manz would return to his studio in the evenings and hang paper from a roll across the length of the wall, then, without premeditation, walk across the room with paintbrush in hand, sometimes only once. The results are works that speak wordlessly about imprisonment and anger, desire and freedom. The speed and rigour of the brush strokes give force to the simple, yet enigmatic forms.
