Figuratively trained Ken McClymont’s abstract paitnings are a carefully selected colourful combination of the dramatic and the symbolic. Coherent visual ambiguities from fundamental shapes and countless layers form the basis of McClymont’s long term aesthetic artistic principals. As in his theatre directing there is a continual assessment and re-assessment of the lines and negative marks and colour that entice the viewer to communicate with the work. Ken graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1982. He has continued to make art and exhibit since then whilst forging another award-winning, critically acclaimed career as a Theatre Director/Designer of mostly new writing. He was Artistic Director of the Old Red Lion Theatre, Islington from 1988 – 2002. He has directed and designed over fifty productions and most recent work was presented at the Rosemary Branch, Theatre Delicatessen and the Tabard Theatres. Recent exhibitions include: Flanders Expo, Ghent 2009, Gallery Croissant, Studio DVO, Brussels 2009 & 2010 (Group Shows), Diesel House, Kew, London – One Night Only Exhibition 2008 and ArtHouse – Richmond Council Art Weeks 2008 www.kenmcclymont.co.uk
