WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This workshop led by Fay Penrose will discuss definitions of architecture within anatomy and explore analogous relationships across wider disciplines. We will cover overarching themes of structural support, space and form, and consider the constraints of material properties, scaling and function.
Using anatomical material (assorted animal bones, sheep hearts, anatomical source reference images) we will use drawing to consider form and function in the biological world. We will be focusing on how to represent complex three-dimensional shapes and spaces using a range of drawing techniques. Participants may also wish to take part in a short guided dissection of the sheep heart where we consider how shape, material properties, spaces and potential spaces allow the heart to function as an efficient pump. Materials are included.
Please note this workshop will use animal material.
Guest Series Format: Our Thursday evening series of workshops will focus on extending drawing through low-tech, low cost, DIY techniques. The creatives leading each workshop are young and emerging, yet each is working in a strong and accomplished way with their approach and materials.
