Well, it's all over and I'm shattered but happy! I had worried that the residency would just fizzle out at the end of today, but it was a frenzy of excitement! Giuseppe came to do another shoot and people got […]
In a collaboration between Waygood Studios and Arcadea I have been invited to be a Resident Artist in the Project Space for 6 months. See also http://textartist.blogspot.com/
Right – I am angry with myself. Firstly it is ages since I tentavely started this blog. Secondly I am diffident about doing it. Every artists exposes themselves simply by making art. I guess to my shame that I don't […]
Layers & networks… connections across time & (s)p(l)aces… Playing around in my head, researching, some really good conversations with other artists… but also beginning to play with materials, drawing, layering with photoshop, lots of beginnings – bit like a rabbit […]
Hot Chip The electo pop-ish band Hot chip have an intriguing cover to their latest single. It looks like a lumpy marquetry mass. Their album covers have been good in the past so I was pleased to see this and […]
EXPERIMENTS AND RESEARCH OR JUST MESSING AROUND? 27/12/07 So I finally started working. I've strung several lengths of twine from one side of the studio to the other. I had to mark them with luminous electrical tape after an accident […]
Snow Bound 9/1/08 Battling tentatively through the snow with a boot load of exciting booty to mess around with when i got to the studio i was a bit ahead of myself. Unlike those days when you wake up slightly […]
Floored I tend to make things on the fly or in a spontaneous manner. I don't dwell on what it is i am going to make – it just comes into my head and i make it. I am not […]
FITTING IT ALL IN 11/02/08 It's that old thing. You either have the time or the money, rarely both. When this residency was first mooted the year was looking like a desert road – long and empty. Now, in the […]
CHEAP PAINT-SHIELDS ROAD When i lived in Bristol they used to say you could get anything on the Gloucester Road, and in my experience that was pretty much true. It used to be a similar story for Shields Road when […]
Today I worked on the painting on my own. The day seemed longer without Elaine to chat to, but I managed to get all the background painted in and I'm ready to finish it tomorrow. I've noticed from today and […]
A mid winter day up on the top of Galva, far removed from the hint of Spring we've been used to. Spending an hour or so up there taking photos and drawing, it is easy to see why people who […]
21/02/08Weather mild and dull, it starts to rain as we approach Bedford. The journey to Bedford is beginning to feel a little dull; I may vary my approach from now on. The driver was in a bad mood; he gave […]
‘Too many things squashed into a small space.’ I’ve spent an enormous amount of time trying to work out what is the right Question to ask. I feel like I need a clear line of enquiry, to really distil what […]
ABSCESS Been away, absent, from the University Residency with a tooth abscess. I looked abscess up: from the latin for going away, separating. Absent is also from latin but from a dfferent root: to be away, not present. Looked up […]

Images are reworked again and again and, like recurrent dreams, evolve and mutate, but remain recognisable through characters, objects and a consistent emotional direction. A concern with the quality of line and colour - borrowed from the domestic through the use of test pot colours - underlies the implied narratives, each drawing a stage for the small dramas of family life
