I’m writing this from Maastricht, where I presented a talk and workshop on my ideas of The Artist As Entrepreneur for the annual creative industries conference organised by The Artist and The Others (programme here http://theartistandtheothers.nl/event/conferen…), an interesting Netherlands based organisation linking […]
Sculptor Laura Ford’s new commission for Brighton’s House Biennial draws on the history of town’s Royal Pavilion and in particular that of its early 19th century commissioner King George IV, who lived there as Prince Regent prior to taking the throne. Dany Louise talks to the artist about her work and finds out why Donald Trump has a starring role in her installation, A King’s Appetite.
Croydon-based Turf Projects showing artist Saelia Aparicio Torino has won this year’s prize for its exhibition during Art Licks Weekend 2017.
How many times have we heard “Pop by, it would be lovely to see you”? Probably almost as many as the “How are you?’ which is often said and frequently not meant as the greeter moves on to the next […]
First and foremost, what is knowledge when it is “free”? Whether there are sites, such as the spaces of art, in which knowledge might be more “free” than in others? What are the institutional implications of housing knowledge […]
Screen Printing Process I have been using the screen printing process in a crude way for a couple of years to put designs onto my tile work but up until now I had very little understanding of how the actual […]
Ceramic Screen Printing The final part of the project which has been funded with a bursary from a-n The Artists Information Company involved using the knowledge and techniques learnt at Hot Bed Press to create my own ceramic screen prints. […]
Further courses in screen printing As part of my a-n artist information company bursary I returned to Hot Bed Press in early June and again in July to attend two more screen printing courses. The first was the ‘Screen Printed […]
I am really pleased that the film I made during the residency and screened at the Festival will feature as part of the FiliArt programme of exhibitions, performances and screenings during the upcoming (Feminism in London) FiLia conference on 14-15 October 2017 at the Institute of Education in London.
Now that there is less than a month to go I’m busy ticking items off what seems like a never ending checklist. There’s a lot to think about from advertising it, finishing the work and thinking about how it’s all […]
International list of names announced for 10th edition of biennial which is also celebrating 20 years of presenting art in the city and region.
I am a final year fine art student working across multiple disciplines to explore the concept of destruction within art.
Emily Peasgood is one of the 2017 Folkestone Triennial commissioned artists. She’s created ‘Halfway to Heaven’, an acoustic piece drawing on both geological and cultural divides, neatly fitting this year’s theme ‘Double Edge’. Peasgood discusses her work with Jillian Knipe.
Artists are often asked to work for free in return for exposure via social media likes and audience praise, so for a recent commission (paid) Alistair Gentry decided to walk around Folkestone dressed in a cliched ‘artist’s costume’ asking other types of worker if they’d do the same. Perhaps unsurprisingly, they weren’t particularly keen.
Casting aside gloomy critiques of economic systems and the instrumentalization of culture for the moment, there are a few more obvious, more positive, abstract elements of the forum format still left to outline. Regardless of whatever opinion we might have […]
It seems ages ago I received notification of being awarded an a-n Professional Development Bursary. Back in March life seemed so different. I was going through the “Famine of Freelance” – you know – that thing no one really talks […]
October will see me utilise this blog for documenting, describing and assessing my Orchard Square artist’s residency. The residency affords me one month housed in what is nominally a retail unit in the heart of Sheffield city centre. Positioned in […]
Researching the potential of digital technology to develop my practice.
