Ian Moss, ‘Deconstructed Canvas’, Mixed media on canvas, 2012. Photo: Eleanor May.
Experimenting with the approaches of the artist, Fabian Marcaccio, I attacked the canvas to break the picture plane and subsequently utilised a mix of collaged digital prints, mixed media and acrylic paint. This artwork was a more chance-based, expressive approach to my more usual carefully constructed collage/construction ‘combines’ of previous years.Going further back, I did utilise controlled chance with fire, dusts, splatters etc. – and this piece reminded me of how much I enjoyed ‘controlled chance’. One day, I’ll explain what I mean by that. Today, I began another artwork that will undoubtedly be an extension of this project from 2 years ago.
