I placed one end of the long unpainted (but primed) canvas in an old half-butt full of dirty pond-like water and left it there undisturbed for weeks. Today, I removed it. The beauty of the image is the distinct edge between air and water – and the faded pink tones, the subtle colours, and dirtiness of the canvas where it had been submerged. It seems that whatever the barrel once held had coloured the water, and thus the canvas is similarly coloured. An unexpected and splendid surprise. Even better than expected in such a short time. This will be dried & spray varnished to be displayed as is. I shall make more of these in the future.
