A Mansion On Earth Is Worth Two In The Skies

PAT SHENSTONE, ‘A Mansion On Earth Is Worth Two In The Skies’, Oil On Canvas, 2009. Photo: Pat Shenstone. Courtesy: the Artist. The title comes from an old postcard that I bought some time ago,and from some text in ‘Cat’sEye’by Margaret Atwood. The Homberg and the Handbag are significant,as are the dogs that prowl about. The image in the mirror refers to a painting titled ‘Which Image In The Mirror?, Mother, Daughter, Self’. The plants are a device for the sub-division of the picture plane.
