LOCWS International, the Swansea-based commissioning agency responsible for the Art Across The City public art programme in the Welsh city, unveiled four new temporary commissions today.
The new commissions are situated throughout the city centre and include work by Swedish artist Jacob Dahlgren, British art duo Juneau Projects, Finnish artist Laura Sorvala and Yorkshire-based Matthew Houlding. Including the new pieces, there are currently 13 Art Across The City public realm works on show in Swansea.
The new works are all sculptural interventions in the fabric of the city centre. Dahlgren’s colourful abstract placards arrived at the city’s Amphitheatre following a street procession, while Juneau Projects have placed different coloured, idiosyncratic symbols with cut-out birds on them, perched up high on the trees in Singleton Park.
Positioned in front of the Guildhall, Houlding’s large modernist monument mirrors the imposing, recently renovated clock tower. On Princess Way, Sorvala has covered a plinth-like object with her drawings, which illistrate people’s thoughts on a future Swansea.
The four new pieces will be on show until 6 October 2013.
