A cyanotype photograph by artist Rosie Emerson – commissioned as part of last weekend’s Hackney WickED Art Festival – has been announced as a world record breaker.

The mystical image, which suggests both the night sky and an underwater scene, was created at Hackney’s Cygnet Bar on Sunday morning.

Emerson arranged a number of life models and props, including shells, hula-hoops and a chandelier, on to a light-sensitive canvas. She then exposed the image to the east London sunshine for around three minutes.

Measuring 46.81 square metres, the work takes the record from former holder, the French artist CAES du CNRS.

Rosie Emerson will be discussing this and other works as part of the London Alternative Photography Collective August meeting at Doomed Gallery, 65-67 Ridley Road, London, tonight (5 August), 7pm. londonalternativephotography.wordpress.com
