Robert Cervera, Samantha Donnelly, Andrew Ekins, Alex Hardy, John Lawrence, Gorka Mohamed, Hannah Murgatroyd and Lexi Strauss have been selected for this year’s Exeter Contemporary Open exhibition with the chance to win a £1,000 Main Award and a £500 Additional Award.
The eight artists were chosen by 2013 Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley, curator and art consultant Ceri Hand and Exeter Phoenix’s Gallery Curator, Matt Burrows, from a record-breaking number of entries received by the Devon-based arts centre from all over Europe and as far as Japan and America.
“There was a fantastic response to this year’s call out and the selection panel had a grueling task to reach our final selection. The overall standard of entries was very high and we were extremely impressed by the breadth and scope of engaged, contemporary practice submitted” said Burrows.
Exeter Contemporary Open will take place at Exeter Phoenix from 12 September to 1 November 2014.
