Organised by University of the Arts London (UAL), Artsmart is a three-week festival of events, activities and workshops, free to all students, graduates and staff at UAL.
The range of workshops includes a free legal advice clinic with a solicitor from charity LawWorks, plus sessions on sprucing up CVs and online portfolios. There are also a range of opportunities for artists, including a competition to win free mentoring with REcreativeUK.com, a free website review with e-commerce platform SupaDupa, and public speaking training by the students’ union.
a-n is running four workshops on professional practice during the festival. Dan Thompson will be offering advice on setting up pop up projects, while Jack Hutchinson will deliver an in-depth session on social media and blogging. WeDidThis founder Hen Norton will be discussing crowdfunding and how to improve project-pitching and fundraising techniques.
Finally, artist Emilia Telese will be running a workshop on negotiating fees. This practical guide will examine how artists can work towards asking for a fair fee for their work – and get paid it. Telese will ‘show artists how they can get paid what they want and deserve.’
The event is supported by a host of organisations, including DACS, Artquest, Creative Exchange and Ideas Tap.
Artsmart runs from 17 June-5 July. Full programme available at www.artsmartlondon.co.uk
