Eight artists have been shortlisted for the ninth Catlin Art Prize, selected from the 40 recent graduates featured in the annual Catlin Art Guide. The artists in the guide are included for their work shown in the most recent series of BA, MA, MFA and PG Dip final exhibitions.
Of the artists on the final shortlist, four are graduates of the Royal College of Art and only one went to an art college outside London. The artists will be featured in an exhibition in May at the Londonnewcastle Project Space, London.
The shortlisted artists are: Jon Baker (Chelsea College of Arts), Felicity Hammond (Royal College of Art), Oliver Hickmet (City & Guilds of London Art School), Nicholas Johnson (Royal College of Art), Paul Schneider (Royal Academy of Arts), Lexi Strauss (Royal College of Art), Dominic Watson (Glasgow School of Art) and Zhu Tian (Royal College of Art).
The artists are chosen for ‘their potential to make a significant mark on the art world in the next decade’. They receive mentoring and production assistance to present work for the exhibition.
The winner, who will be announced on 13 May, will receive a prize of £5000. There is also a £2000 Visitor Vote award.
