Judith Carlton has been appointed as the new director of CGP London, Cafe Gallery and Dilston Grove. She joins the organisation from Matt’s Gallery, where she has been assistant director for the last four years.

Carlton has also held positions as gallery manager at London’s Cubitt Gallery and Studios, The Serpentine Galleries and Hatton Gallery, Newcastle.

She replaces CGP’s founding director, Ron Henocq, who is stepping down at the end of this month to pursue other projects. It marks the close of a 30-year tenure which has seen the transformation of a derelict cafe into an internationally recognised contemporary art space encompassing two venues in Southwark Park.

Carlton, who will take up her new role in April, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be appointed as director of CGP London. Cafe Gallery was the first gallery space I visited when I moved to London eight years ago. I couldn’t be more excited to be leading the organisation into its next phase.”

To celebrate Henocq’s long tenure and his ongoing artistic practise, CPG will be presenting a solo exhibition of his work at Cafe Gallery in September of this year.
