House of Illustration have appointed a new director, Colin McKenzie, who joins the organisation from June as it celebrates the launch of its new permanent home in King’s Cross. House of Illustration at 2 Granary Square launches this summer as the ‘world’s first gallery and education space devoted to celebrating and promoting illustration in all its forms’.

McKenzie is former director of independent house museum, The Charleston Trust and previously held development roles at the National Gallery and the Barbican Centre.

Having steered the capital project development of House of Illustration’s new home, Flora Craig will step down from her role as project director in July. The organisation, which was set up in 2002 by a group of the UK’s leading illustrators, will share the 2 Granary Square building with the Art Fund.

McKenzie said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the House of Illustration at this exciting moment in its history, building on the huge achievements of Flora and the rest of the team. House of Illustration will be a stunning new arts space in one of London’s most exciting areas and I can’t wait to get started.”

Until 5 July, a series of pre-launch housewarming events will invite the public to be part of the preparations for the grand opening.
