Creative Scotland has launched its long-awaited 10-year plan, the result of a period of extensive consultation with contributions from almost 1000 people.
Unlocking Potential, Embracing Ambition sets out five ambitions that will frame the work of Creative Scotland over the next ten years, underpinned by a set of 15 priorities that will shape its activities during the next three years. At the same time, Scotland’s support body for the arts, screen and creative industries has also launched its new funding approach.
Janet Archer, Creative Scotland’s chief executive, said: “I’m delighted to launch the ten-year plan which sets out a vision and a set of clear ambitions for arts and creativity in Scotland. I’m particularly pleased that the plan has effectively been ‘crowd sourced’, bringing together more than 1000 voices from across the arts, screen and creative industries.
“Coupled with the launch of our Regular Funding Programme, which will deliver stable, three-year funding for organisations, [this] is the beginning of a new phase for Creative Scotland. We are launching an ambitious plan and at the same time we are bringing greater clarity about our role and our funding approach. In addition, we have worked hard to make sure we have the right people, knowledge and expertise to deliver the plan.”
Creative Scotland is to host nine information sessions to introduce the 10-year plan and new routes to funding. These will take place in Inverness, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stornoway, Birnam, Dundee, Lerwick, Aberdeen and Peebles over the next three months.
Ambitions and funding
The five ambitions outlined in Creative Scotland’s 10-year plan are: excellence and experimentation across the arts, screen and creative industries is recognised and valued; everyone can access and enjoy artistic and creative experiences; places and quality of life are transformed through imagination, ambition and an understanding of the potential of creativity; ideas are brought to life by a diverse, skilled and connected leadership and workforce; Scotland is a distinctive creative nation connected to the world.
Creative Scotland’s new funding approach consists of three routes to funding: Regular Funding for organisations for three years; Open Project funding for individuals and organisations to deliver time limited projects; and a small number of targeted programmes aimed at delivering shared goals with partners.
The new Regular Funding Programme is designed for organisations seeking a minimum of £150,000 over three years and has an overall budget for the three-year period of £90m. Applications will be accepted from 9 May with a deadline for submission of 7 July. Decisions will be made by the end of October.
All organisations that currently receive funding as a foundation organisation, projects forming programmes’ organisations or as annual clients, have had their funding confirmed until at least 31 March 2015. These organisations are able to apply to the new Regular Funding Programme.
