Leeds-based arts organisation East Street Arts has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to buy artworks for the new home of its popular Art Hostel.
Despite securing a five-year lease in 2016 on an historic building at 83 Kirkgate in the city centre, the hostel was forced to relocate earlier this year.
East Street Arts has now found a new location at New York Studios, New York Road, Leeds, and is looking to commission a number of artists to populate the space with artworks.
The organisation is hoping to raise £15,000, with all of the money raised going straight to paying artists and funding materials to create a selection of Art Hostel rooms and communal spaces.

Leeds Art Hostel: “Chains don’t tell you about the city you’re in” – Lara Eggleton reports on the 2016 opening of the hostel
Carys Fieldson, Guild Research and Development Assistant at East Street Arts, said: “The Art Hostel isn’t just a place to stay. It’s a home for volunteers from around the world, a place for artists to make and show their work, for anyone to call in for a Tuesday tea or take part in Pay-As-You-Feel yoga.
“It’s a vital and unique part of Leeds’ cultural infrastructure and we want to make Art Hostel 2 even more magical than the last.”
A variety of perks are being offered in return for support. These range from badge packs for £20 and an Art Hostel sketchbook for £35, through to Hostel tees for £50 and a hostel stay for £500.
If you are feeling particularly flush, you can hire the whole hostel for £1,250, or design your own room for £1,500.
The hostel team adds that it is aware that not everyone is in a position to donate financially, but is encouraging people to help the campaign by sharing it on social channels using the hashtags #helpthearthostel #eaststreetarts #crowdfunding #arthostel.
