Zombie Media Residencies
Joanne Masding and Ben Freeth are the Zombie Media Residents for Digital Artist Residencies, an online exhibition space that seeks to present work that functions beyond conventional notions of physical space. Masding’s gifs as artworks explore a sense of weight, playing with form and slapstick humour; Freeth is creating his work in three parts through a series of workshops that see him explore the bio-acoustics of hydrophones. Starting offline, the artist will build a series of DIY listening devices, from which his sound pieces will be algorithmically generated.
Until 14 November 2015, online at www.digitalartistresidency.org.

A Graphic War – Sculpture Trail
Ian Kirkpatrick‘s scuptural reworkings of packaging and marketing imagery take on a darker note in his latest exhibition across four sites in Leeds. A result of his Leverhulme residency at Leeds Museums and Galleries, the artist has turned his attention to the graphic design of the first world war. Considering the patriotic campaigns that drew so many young Britons to the battlefields, his sarcophagus-like armoured warriors stand life-size, their bright humour a front for something far more sinister.
1-30 November 2015, Leeds City Museum, Trinity Shopping Centre, Leeds Kirkgate Markets and Colours May Vary, Leeds.

Cartography for Girls
The female characters in the literature of Iris Murdoch are the recurring reference within this exhibition, which draws together a body of work by Carol Sommer. Through video and text, the artist has been reworking and re-presenting exerts from Murdoch’s 26 novels, attentive to ethical ideas on classification and female experience.
