The Griffin Art Prize 2013 has been awarded to Luke George and Elizabeth Rose, who were selected by the judges from an exhibition of 10 shortlisted artists at the West London gallery.

They pair will receive a six-month residency in a studio, with materials and a small financial allowance in order to develop new work that will then be exhibited in the Griffin Gallery.

The winning artist duo’s practice is defined by notions of chance, and the happenstance results that are born out of collaborative approaches to painting.

Describing their work, Luke George and Elizabeth Rose have said: “The possibilities of materials are endless; it is this constant investigation into what they can do that makes the process of painting so interesting to us. We are inspired by journeys around the city during which we document residual marks that hold a trace of human impact.”

The exhibition of shortlisted works continues at Griffin Gallery until Friday 29 November.
