The House of Lords is to debate the issue of UK Government support for artists on Monday 19 January.
The short debate, which will be led by crossbench peer the Earl of Clancarty – also known as artist and writer Nick Trench – will ask the government ‘what support they are giving to individual artists, writers and composers’.
There are so far five peers listed to speak during the debate. (Speaker lists for House of Lords debates close at 6pm the day before, and more speakers may be added before the debate takes place.)
As well as Trench, other confirmed speakers at the time of writing are: the Liberal-Democrat peer Jane Bonham Carter, Baroness Bonham-Carter of Yarnbury; the crossbench peer and filmmaker Beeban Kidron, Baroness Kidron OBE; the Labour peer Glenys Thornton, Baroness Thornton; and Baroness Judith Jolly, Liberal Democrat Government spokesperson in the House of Lords for health, defence, DCMS and equalities.
