KALEID, the independent artists’ book exhibition returns to London tomorrow (Saturday 19 July) at The Art Academy, London. Bookstalls from galleries, independent publishers and artists’ collectives are complemented by a curated exhibition of KALEID edition’s fifty ‘most interesting artists who do books’. Those participating include: Ian Whittlesea, Lotte Reimann, Nicky Hamlyn, Helen Knowles and Joanne Lee; with works spanning traditional artists’ book practices to the newest publishing technologies.
This year, for the first time, KALEID are presenting a newly-commissioned book work in conjunction with the exhibition. ‘Amnesiac Patina’ is a sculptural photobook by Germany-born, London-based Liane Lang that incorporates patinated bronze resin casting with previously unseen photographic works by the artist.
Lang commented: “This is my first artist’s book and I’m enjoying the process of bringing together the textural, sculptural element of my work and the photographic into one object. The sequential and contained format of the book broadened my way of thinking, creating new narratives and conceptual connections within my practice.”
Established in 2009, KALEID editions in an artist-led programme of exhibitions and events that advocates and represents European-based artists of all disciplines who make books.
KALEID 2014, Saturday 19 July 2014, 11am-8pm, The Art Academy, Mermaid Court, 165a Borough High Street, London SE1 1HR.
