Established in 1992, VIVID has achieved a strong reputation for its work with artists’ moving image and for its forging of new collaborations between artists, the academic sector and industry. Dedicated to the development of contemporary media art and interdisciplinary practice, VIVID has supported research, new works, artists’ residencies, events and publications:
“From the little seen work of the Film and Video Workshop Movement; to festivals about Fluxus and new shows from rising British artists such as Haroon Mirza, the exhibition programme has won acclaim for juxtaposing new artist research and practice with key historical works and movements … It is with great sadness that the Board of Directors announces this news but they are working closely with the team to ensure that the VIVID legacy lives on.”
@VIVID_’s announcement on Twitter this afternoon provoked a flurry of responses, and messages of support are already being added to their Facebook page:
@ruthclaxton Sad news from @VIVID_ more important than ever to argue the value of an ecology of independent art activity in the city.
@Nicola_Lowery Very sad to hear about the closure of @VIVID_ The artistic collaborations made are truly outstanding and long may its legacy live on!
